Legwear, Athletic Sock – Trends And Fashion |

September 28, 2003 By: Rony Swede Legwear, Athletic Sock – Trends And FashionAlthough some manufacturers are focusing on women’s sports socks for spring and summer, women’s sports socks are not the only game in town. Short silhouettes are expected to continue ruling the playing field for at least another season, and performance yarns and fibers are still successful players. Casual sports socks, socks that can go from the gym to the mall, but which have performance attributes such as wicking, anti-microbial properties and cushioning, are still riding high with consumers. A newcomer to the sports sock field this spring and summer, Dupont’s Tactel Nylon, is expected to draw the interest of consumers. The fiber isn’t new to socks, but manufacturers are just beginning to use it in sport socks. Fox River Mills has introduced a new unisex cycling sock line with the lightweight fiber that works well because it doesn’t stain easily, and holds up well for laundering, according to Fox River’s Hal Hoffman. It appeals to sports socks manufacturers because it has a very soft hand, says Paul DelMonico of Moretz Sports. Casual sports socks are dressing up with fashion tipping, splashes of color and reflective stripes as well as anitmicrobial yarns and treatments for summer sports. We are trying to make our socks so they can be used as athletic socks and can be used for shopping and hanging out or going to the movies,” says Carol Schierlmann of Neuville Industries which makes the Keds brand socks. That works well with the Keds brand identification: We are making a product that people like to put on with tennis shoes and wear all day. Jefferies Socks has incorporated a glow in the dark reflective strip to a cushion crew that comes in several color combinations. The Burlington, NC manufacturer also has a sport crew with a half cushion, a welt top and a soil-buster bottom that comes in white or colors. Also see; athletic socks.About
