Pink is the one colour that in our North American culture has been purely assigned to girls. Indeed pink socks are never worn by men, even though they can often be seen in other pastel colours. Men may be wearing pink clothing in Europe, but few men will wear it in the US or in Canada. And then one day, billionaire Donald Trump wore a pink tie on his TV hit show The Apprentice. Then Andre Benjamin of OutKast wore a pink-and-white checked shirt in the "50 Most Beautiful" issue of People magazine. Has pink become the new blue for men? The pink sock is also synonymous with the husband attempting to do laundry for the first time, and mixing colours and whites. Some women believe that men will intentionally mix pink coloured socks with whites so they are never asked to to the laundry again. That is when the kids’ white fuzzy and cotton soccer, softball or baseball socks suddenly appear pink. This disaster is like a warning beacon and can be enough to permanently scare away all other men from attempting the laundry themselves. The pink sock may look good in ballet usage, but it just doesn’t fare so well in competitive field sports.
