Compression Socks – Medically Effective Therapy |
|
September 29, 2005 By: William Pensworth Compression Socks – Medically Effective TherapyIt is very important to wear compression socks for a variety of vein problems and circulation-related conditions. These include aching, tired, heavy legs, leg/ankle swelling (edema), and varicose and spider veins. Compression garments and socks in particular, are well suited for active men and women, for people who are standing and sitting for long hours at work, and for people travelling long distances by car or air. There is increasing concern that air travellers are vulnerable to the increased air pressure and blood clots, and greater numbers of them are now turning to leg compressing socks. By compressing the dilated veins, the compression sock creates a gentle squeeze at the ankles and helps get blood moving up the leg and back to the heart for better blood circulation. In addition to reducing leg/ankle pain and discomfort, compressing the leg reduces swelling in these parts by lessening the build-up of fluids. Depending on the vein problem or condition that you are trying to treat, you will be able to select from a range of compression levels (measured in millimetres of mercury) that determine the pressure provided by your garment. Garment compression levels range from 15-20 mmHg all the way up to 50-60 mmHg. Juzo, Truform, Sigvaris and Jobst specialise in manufacturing this particular sock, but many others also offer excellent products. Also see; socks for diabetics.About
