Tennis Socks – Protect Your Feet

Tennis players place a lot of stress on their feet whether they play on clay or asphalt courts. There is a lot of twisting and turning as you attempt to reach for the ball and return a volley that in some cases is approaching 90 miles an hour. It is very important to have the right tennis socks to help protect your feet during these intensive workouts and avoid strains and over heating which can cause blisters and other damage to your feet. There are a number of characteristics that a tennis sock must meet in order to be classed as an excellent sock.

A tennis sock must have dense padding to provide durability and protection against shock and also to help with the impact of intense stopping and starting as you change direction to return a volley to your opponent. Socks, such as Thor, are topped off with spandex to provide additional protection and a better fit. It is also important to minimize the padding in areas such as the arch were you need to provide air space so that the socks can wick away the moisture and provide cooling and drying to your foot. Even toes must have more padding than normal socks to protect the toes during high speed stops and starts on the court.

Readers may want to consider trying a number of different socks when they play tennis to help them decide which one is best for them in terms of fit and support. Everyone’s foot is different and many people may find that one sock is better for them than another sock. So try a few and then once you have a sock for playing tennis that works for you, stick with that set of socks and concentrate on your game. With comfortable feet your tennis game will often improve!
