Hiking Socks – Smart Choices |
|
September 12, 2005 By: William Pensworth Hiking Socks – Smart ChoicesWho would have thought that buying a pair of hiking socks could be so complicated? If you break it down in a logical fashion, you can end up with the right kind of sock for your feet. Some people find that their feet sweat a lot and the moisture tends to build up and leave an uncomfortable feeling, and could also potentially generate blisters. If you have sweaty feet you will probably want something that will control the moisture and is good at wicking away sweat. Wool socks are good at wicking away sweat, but synthetic socks are better for really sweaty feet. Socks for hiking also relieve a lot of pressure on heels, soles and toes of your feet. Thicker socks that provide padding in these areas will protect your feet from blisters. Any one who has been in a marathon knows how important it is to have good socks for hiking and for running. It is important to wear socks that wick away the moisture and provide cushioning for your feet. If you have any doubt about the difference, try a thin pair of dress socks for a short hike and then do the same thing with a pair of proper padded socks that protect your feet and provide active cushioning while you are walking or running. Another factor to take into account are socks that have unobtrusive seams do not press or wear against your skin. After even a short length of time, seams in a sock can make a huge difference in comfort and the number of blisters that you may have. Make sure that it fits tight but does not rub anywhere. A well-padded sock will wick the moisture away and provide you with cushioning to provide lots of comfort while you exercise. Also see; athletic socks.About
