Socks, utilitarian in nature, have never been considered an exciting part of any performance apparel line. The 2004 Pearl Originals sock program intends to change that. Starting in spring 2004, Pearl Izumi is making its strongest commitment to the sock category to date. The spring 2004 selection will include 49 unique sock styles offered for Pearl Izumi’s cycling retailers. Topping the sock offerings this spring is the most comprehensive collection of Pearl Originals ever—42 in all. Next year’s prints include a collection of fun pop-icons such as Twinkie the Kid, Wonder Bread, and Qwisp Cereal. Additionally, Pearl Izumi will have Women’s Pearl Originals featuring a lower cut ankle height, four women’s sizes, and 12 signature designs that match the women’s clothing collection. The women’s socks—as well as the women’s shoes—represent a huge step for the company, and category, in addressing the needs of the women’s running and cycling markets. Returning to Pearl Izumi’s sock line in 2004 are the popular Attack, Trail, Quest and Classic socks. The X-Static Sock design has been updated as well, now being offered in a run-specific low ankle cut as well a higher cut for cycling. Finally, the newest addition to the Pearl Izumi line is the ultra thin and lightweight Keirin Sock, made with Tectel yarns for those who a seeking the maximum in feeling and control. Pearl Izumi’s new sock line for spring 2004 is the perfect compliment to their new shoe offerings, representing the company’s commitment to providing stylish performance—not to mention happy feet – for many cyclists.
